Sattu Paratha


Sattu Paratha is famous in Bihar Region, but people from near by states also make it and relish the taste of Sattu Parathas. Sattu Parathas are very healthy and it takes minimum time to cook it. Its very yummy and fulfilling. Sattu Parathas are very healthy. It is mostly had in summers, as it saves you from dehydration. And yeah, Sattu is actually Powdered Roasted Chana dal. For a healthier version, this Parathas can be shallow fried in Olive also. You can also use ghee or oil depending upon your wish.


  1. Firstly, prepare the dough using the ingredients mentioned under Dough.
  2. Let it rest for minimum half an hour.
  3. The dough should not be too dry or sticky. Prepare a soft dough. It helps in binding the stuffing inside the Parathas and doesn't crack.
  4. Mix all ingredients under stuffing and mix 1-2 tsp of water to make a moist and soft filling so that it is easier to fill.
  5. Now for Parathas, Divide the dough into small portions and make it into round shapes.
  6. Place a portion of the Sattu Mixture/ Filling ( 2 tsp) in the middle,enfold the filling and pinch off the excess dough.
  7. Then roll out the Paratha.
  8. Cook on a hot tawa or a hot pan, applying oil/ghee on both sides. You can use olive oil for a healthier version of cooking. ( I have used extra virgin borges olive oil)
  9. Cook till golden brown.
  10. Serve hot with tomato chutney and Baingan ka bharta. It can also be had with Plain tomato ketchup/ Sauce and curd.
  11. It can be served for breakfast , lunch or dinner.
