Pyaj Posto  Bengali Pyaz Posto


This is a die hard recipe every bengali loves. And i feel why only bengalis , people who have had this dish with piping hot rice has also equally savored it. This is a very simple recipe, which requires minimum ingredients. It goes well with any kind of Indian Bread like roti, chapati, paratha and also can be had with rice.


  1. Soak 1/2 cup poppy seeds in warm water for 20 minutes.
  2. Grind the poppy seeds and green chili til you get a smooth paste.
  3. Slice the onions.
  4. Heat the mustard oil in a pan.
  5. Add the onions.
  6. Fry the onions till brown.
  7. Add the Poppy seeds paste. Mix well. Add little water and simmer for five minutes.
  8. Add salt and sugar.
  9. Pyaj posto is ready to be served.
