Karela Sabzi


Karela is known as Bitter Gourd in English. Some of you may not like karela at all, but this simple recipe is a must try for those who like karela. This dish is made with some Potatoes and Onions, it tastes great with Phulkas/ Roti or a side dish with Dal & rice. If you are using biig Karela then use only 1, if you are using small karelas, then you can use 4-5. I have used small karelas here, so i have taken 4-5 karelas.


  1. Firstly wash the veggies, and then chop the karelas very finely and make cubes out of the potato.
  2. Slice the onions.
  3. Heat the mustard oil in a kadhai.
  4. When the oil is hot, add the methi dana and the broken red chili.
  5. Add the cubed potatoes, salt, red chili and turmeric.
  6. Cover and cook for five minutes.
  7. Add the karelas, Mix well. Cover and cook for Five minutes.
  8. When the karelas are almost done, add the sliced onions.
  9. Mix well. Now again cover and cook for five more minutes. Till everything is done properly.
  10. Check the salt.
  11. Enjoy the dish.
