Jeera rice and is one of the easiest and quickest rice recipe prepared in jiffy. Jeerarice is often served with dal or curries of choice. However, it can be consumed by itself without any side dish as it rich in cumin and ghee flavor. This flavored rice recipe is from north India, but is hugely popular all over the world.


  1. Wash basmati rice till water runs clear of starch. Soak for 30 minutes and then drain them. Keep the rice bowl aside
  2. Heat 5 cups of water. Add all the spice. Add rice and salt. Simmer the rice on low flame uncovered
  3. Rice grains should be cooked soft yet separate. Drain the water and keep cooked rice aside.
  4. If you want, you can rinse the rice again with water at room temperature.
  5. Take a small pan and heat the oil. Add cumin/jeera
  6. Let them crackle. They have to be fried well else the taste would be raw
  7. Add green chilies. Stir for few seconds.
  8. Add tempering to warm rice
  9. Gently mix the tempering with rice grains. Mix gently.
  10. Add coriander and mix gently
  11. Serve hot with dal or vegetable curry of your choice.
