Green Gram Sundal/ Pachai Payaru Sundal


Green Gram Sundal or as known as Pachai Payaru is generally offered to God in the form of Prasadam. This particular dish is very famous in South India. This can also be prepared as an evening snack.


  1. Wash and soak the green gram in water for 7-8 hours.
  2. Wash and pressure cook the green gram along with some salt for 1-2 whistles.
  3. In a kadhai, heat some oil. preferably Sesame or Peanut oil You can also use refined oil.
  4. Add the broken red chili, turmeric powder, urad dal, mustard seeds and curry leaves. Let them crackle.
  5. Drain the water from the green gram and add the green gram to the tempering.
  6. Add the grated coconut and check the salt.
