Yet another recipe from my Kitchen which is an integral part of OnamSadya. This Kerala style seasoned buttermilk curry or Moru Curry, which is nothing but Buttermilk seasoned with Indian spices like ginger, garlic, green chilies, shallots, curry leaves etc. Like most of the Sadya dishes, this is also super quick and easy to make and hardly takes 5 minutes to whip up. Here is how to make Moru Curry.


  1. Heat oil in a pan.
  2. When the oil is hot, add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, cumin seeds and dry red chilies.
  3. Let them splutter for a few seconds.
  4. Add curry leaves, ginger, garlic and green chilies and fry for a few seconds.
  5. Add shallots and fry till slightly browned.
  6. Add turmeric powder and switch off the heat.
  7. Add buttermilk and mix well.
  8. Switch on the heat and cook the curry on low heat till it just starts to boil.
  9. Do not let the curry boil.
  10. Keep stirring continuously.
  11. Switch off the heat.
  12. Serve Moru Curry with steamed rice.
