Cooking Tips

  1. While cooking cabbage, add a bay leaf which will in turn reduce the smell and give a nice flavor to it.
  2. Add some salt while boiling eggs and potato, that decreases the cooking time and as well as peeling of the outer layer becomes easier with this.
  3. While cooking rice, add 1 tsp of refined oil to avoid sticking of rice.
  4. Add a dollop of ghee, while pressure cooking any dal along with some salt and turmeric. It enhances the taste of the dal.
  5. While kneading dough in winter, instead of cold water, add some warm water for soft dough.
  6. Add salt while cooking veggies, helps in cooking the dish faster.
  7. Remove the stems of green chilies while storing them .This will help them to stay fresh for long.
  8. Maintain a different vessel for preparing sweets like kheer, halwa, ladoo and the like. This way it can be done in an authentic way.
  9. While grating cheese, apply some oil in the grater so that it won’t stick.
  10. If the salt in any dish is more, you can adjust it by adding a mashed potato, powdered oats,tomato paste or even a dollop of ghee/unsalted butter.
  11. To remove the greasiness of a knife, remove with a lemon.
  12. If you find you need more oil in the pan when sautéing, add it in a stream along the edges of the pan so that by the time the oil reaches the ingredient being cooked, it will be heated.
  13. Add a tbsp. of curd or lemon while cooking bhindi, this will prevent the stickiness and also will make your bhindi crispier.
  14. Add a pinch of hing/asofoetida while cooking any dals or veggies, it will aid in digestion.
